A Seat at the Table
LOCAL OUTREACH INITIATIVE
Seat at the Table - supporting Loaves & Fishes to provide meals daily to individuals and families in need.
Loaves & Fishes serves over 200 meals daily. Local grocery stores, restaurants, and farmers make it possible for Loaves & Fishes to keep our kitchen full and our tables open. To help donors connect their gifts with real impact, we’ve set a reporting value of $3 per meal—a simple way to measure how contributions turn into hot meals for neighbors who need them most. This campaign will allow donors to sponsor individual meals, seats, or entire tables, giving the community a tangible way to contribute and make a difference.
- One Seat - helps provide 1 meal per day → $3/day or $90/month
- Half Table - helps provide 3 meals per day → $9/day or $270/month
- Full Table - helps provide 6 meals per day → $18/day or $540/month
- Day Sponsor - helps provide 200+ meals for one day → $600/day
- Monthly Sponsor - helps support the entire meal service for a month → $2,400/month
- Custom Giving — Any amount welcomed, every dollar helps!
Every gift keeps the kitchen full and the tables open.
Thank you for helping us provide a seat at the table for our neighbors.

This fund carries that legacy forward by investing in areas of critical need across our community each year. With a focus on supporting active-duty military members, veterans, and their families, the fund will provide resources for housing stability, emergency assistance, mental health support, transition services, and family care—meeting people where they are and walking alongside them through life’s challenges.
At its core, this initiative is about more than meeting needs—it’s about continuing a standard of leadership rooted in compassion, service, and action. Through the Jack & Margie Turner Leadership and Service Fund, that legacy will not only be remembered, but actively lived out—creating lasting, meaningful impact for those who have given so much.

We take great pride in our partnership with Austin Peay State University (APSU) and its students. Our collaboration shows up in several meaningful ways.
A few highlights include serving as a Corporate Partner of the APSU College of Business, an initiative that recognizes organizations contributing $1,000+ during the fiscal year. Through this partnership, we’re able to support student growth through sponsorships, engagement opportunities, and real-world professional exposure. Leo Millan also serves on the College of Business Executive Advisory Board, working alongside corporate and community leaders to help guide strategy, development, and collaboration that strengthens the college’s vision and offerings.
Lillie Millan has previously served on the APSU Candlelight Ball Committee, supporting scholarship efforts that help remove financial barriers for students pursuing their academic goals.
We also love coming alongside APSU in other ways as needs arise, including support for Athletics and student resources such as the Food Pantry and the future Millan Foundation Impact Center.
With APSU just minutes from our headquarters, we’re committed to investing in these future changemakers and strengthening our community through purposeful partnership.

Turning the Key to Student Success
How a historic partnership with the Millan Foundation is building a
permanent solution to campus food insecurity
Hunger never walks in the door alone.
It arrives with stress that derails study sessions, anxiety that clouds concentration, and tough choices between textbooks and groceries. For 57% of APSU students and their families facing food insecurity, hunger is a barrier standing between them and their dreams.
But this fall, something remarkable happened. In what university leaders are calling a waters shed moment for student support, APSU and the Millan Foundation forged a partnership that's rewriting the story of how the university addresses student hunger.
A Foundation Built on Shared Purpose
When the Austin Peay State University Board of Trustees approved the naming of the Millan Foundation Impact Center in December, they recognized more than a generous donation—they celebrated APSU's first privately-funded gift-in-place partnership and a model for sustainable student support.
"At the Millan Foundation, our mission is to create a legacy of impact by partnering with good people and great organizations to broaden and strengthen their footprint," said Leo Millan, president of the Millan Foundation. "We work to remove obstacles so our partners can fully carry out their mission. This partnership with Austin Peay State University
reflects our commitment to collaborative efforts that uplift local organizations. Together, we're turning the key to a brighter future for students and the Clarksville community."
The foundation's commitment to complete the buildout of the expanded food pantry facility, which will be named the Millan Foundation Impact Center, does exactly that— removes obstacles. Unlike typical campus food pantries that distribute only shelf-stable items, APSU's facility provides fresh produce, meat, and eggs to students and their families. It's a comprehensive approach to nutrition that recognizes a simple truth: students can't thrive on canned goods alone.
"The Millan Foundation's generous commitment is nothing short of remarkable," said Dr. Mike Licari, APSU president. "This partnership represents our values of community collaboration and shared purpose at Austin Peay—uniting with organizations that share our commitment to student success."
The Numbers Behind the Need
During the 2024-25 academic year alone, the APSU Food Pantry served 505 new students through 3,889 visits—an average of 220 students each month. But the impact extends beyond individual students: each month, the pantry feeds 312 additional family members, including infants who receive formula and diapers while their parents pursue degrees.
This family-focused approach sets APSU apart from most university food assistance programs, which typically serve only enrolled students. It also reflects a deeper understanding of today's college students: 54% are first-generation students, often without family financial safety nets. Many are parents themselves, juggling coursework with childcare and household responsibilities.
The statistics paint a sobering picture: 56% of students report that financial stress impacts their academic performance. When a student must choose between groceries for their children and purchasing required textbooks, everyone loses—the student, their family, and the community that needs their talents and contributions.
Building for Tomorrow: The Two-Phase Approach
The Millan Foundation Impact Center represents the first phase of a two-part vision for sustainable student support. The foundation's buildout of the expanded facility will transform the pantry's capacity immediately:
- Monthly food distribution increases from 4,800 items to 6,500—enabling the pantry to serve 35% more students
- Storage capacity expands from 1,400 to 1,800 shelf-stable items, ensuring consistent availability
- Fresh food distribution doubles from 50 to 100 pounds monthly, providing healthier nutrition options
- Enhanced accessibility and visibility ensure all students can easily access the resources they need
But infrastructure alone doesn't guarantee permanence. That's where phase two comes in: a permanent endowment to sustain the food pantry's operations for generations of students to come.
"We're fortunate to have partners like the Millan Foundation, who understand that true generosity isn't just about giving—it's about transforming lives and building futures," said Kris Phillips, vice president for Alumni, Engagement and Philanthropy. "This partnership is about more than facilities and infrastructure—it's about hope, dignity, and opportunity for Austin Peay students."
An Invitation to Invest
With the Millan Foundation's commitment secured, university leadership launched a campaign for the permanent endowment during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week in November 2025. The ceremonial unlocking of the future Millan Foundation Impact Center symbolized new possibilities—and a call to action for the APSU community.
The endowment will ensure that the enhanced facility can continue serving students long after the ribbon-cutting ceremonies fade. It means students can focus on coursework instead of choosing between textbooks and groceries. It means students managing increasing rent and utility costs can still access nutritious meals. It means infants receive formula, diapers, and care items while their parents complete degrees that will lift entire families.
The APSU Foundation set an example of this community commitment by making a donation to the food pantry in lieu of holiday gifts this year—a gesture honoring all donors while directly supporting students in need.
"This is our moment to establish permanent sustainability," Phillips said. "Every student who walks through our doors is one step closer to graduation, one step closer to launching their career, and one step closer to giving back to the community."
The partnership was celebrated during APSU's Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week Breakfast on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025 followed by an official unlocking ceremony at the future home of the Millan Foundation Impact Center. The ceremonial unlocking marked the beginning of the facility transformation and symbolized new possibilities for student support.
